در تقویم بهائی هر سال دارای ۳۶۵ روز (۳۶۶ روز در سالهای کبیسه) است. یک سال شامل ۱۹ ماه ۱۹ روزه است است که جمعاً ۳۶۱ روز می‌شود و چهار روز باقی‌مانده که در سالهای کبیسه پنج روز می‌گردد، به ایام هاء مشهور است. آخرین ماه از این سال، شهرالعلاء است که بهائیان در این ماه از طلوع تا غروب خورشید از خوردن و آشامیدن پرهیز کرده و روزه می‌گیرند. در دیانت بهائی روزه مبارزه با هوای نفس است. کشیدن سیگار و کلاً استعمال دخانیات نیز در حین روزه حرام است.
تقویم بهائی بنابراین بر اساس این تقویم ثابت، این ماه یعنی ماه صیام، همه ساله مطابق ۱۱ اسفند تا عید نوروز است. بدین صورت عید صیام و عید نوروز در یک روز است. البته در مورد روزه در آخرین روز سال کبیسه اختلاف نظر وجود دارد. روزه در دیانت بهائی بر هر بهائی ای که ۱۵ سال تمام (سن بلوغ در دیانت بهائی) دارند، واجب است.

مسافرین
مشروط بر اینکه سفر بیش از ۹ ساعت به طول انجامد.
کسانی که پیاده سفر می‌کنند به شرط اینکه بیش از ۲ ساعت پیاده‌روی کنند.
کسانی که در محلی کمتر از ۱۹ روز اقامت کنند.
کسانی که به قصد اقامت ۱۹ روز یا بیشتر در محلی وارد شوند فقط برای ۳ روز اول بعد از ورود از روزه گرفتن معافند.
کسانی که در ایام روزه به خانه خود مراجعت می‌کنند از روز ورود باید روزه بگیرند.
بیماران
نفوسی که سنشان متجاوز از ۷۰ سال است. این سن در دیانت بهائی به حد هرم معروف است.
